My experience: Universities
I just graduated from high school...so it's time for me to think about universities!
Let's just do a list for what University I've been trying to get in. lol
1. A University in France
I really wanted to go there, because I can speak fluently in French. I used to live in Geneva for about 7 years and we spoke in French almost everyday. Also, my motivation to go there it's because French is basically the neighbour of Switzerland, which means I can go to Geneva often just to see all my lovely friend there.
Because I live in Indonesia, I had to contact one of the French's Organisation which is IFI. I took a test to know if I was able to go to a French University. The requirement is that I should have a B2 Level and yep I reached it. All was going so smooth because my dad agreed with my decision. But when I talked to my mom, I thought she would be happy about it, but nah. She directly rejected what I wanted and said that I can't go outside of the country for my Bachelor phase. I was so mad because I took like 3 test to be accepted there, it was kind of tired omg. But I tried to understand what she wants, she doesn't want me to be far from here. She wasn't ready for it.
So after all of our blablas I decided to cancel my registration and the IFI was kind of mad with me because I already have been accepted. It was pretty sad but then I realised that it wasn't what I really wanted. I wanted to go their just because I miss my friends so badly. That just wasn't the right thing to do, that was what I felt when I cancelled it, so it wasn't that bad. (I'm a super positive person lol)
2. An American University
This was just so random. There were like an event where all universities from the world open a stand so you can ask them all the information that you need.
There were an American University who offers a little test to earn a scholarship in their university. I just randomly do their test, but the next week, when I opened my mail box...I got the scholarship. I was like super happy about it, because America is the country where I was born so I felt like it was the time to know more about my born-city.
When I saw the option for the major...
It was only Business or Economy, WHICH I DIDN'T HAVE ANY INTEREST IN THEM.
If it was something like Law or even Science, I think I'll say yes even tho I have a little interest in them...but this....0.
So I just gave up and apologies.
3. I was super lost.
I didn't know what to do. All I wanted is to gooooo outside of the country. I could stand on people's behaviour here. I even forgot how to socialise lol. I know that if I stayed here, I couldn't be myself and I couldn't feel free.
I even don't know what to take for the major. I tried to talk to my parents if I could take a break just one year and the year after, I'll start University. But of course they would say no, they said it was the craziest and shitty things they've heard.
4. Indonesian's University
To go to a public university in Indonesia, it's super hard. There's only 3 doors to enter to one of them.
1. Without Exam
This is the first chance to go to an public university. The requirement is that you must have good grades and that's all. But when you apply, you will have a lot of "enemy" so it's still super hard to get in there. It's actually by chance lol
2. With Exam - National
This is a writing exam all over the country. Can you imagine, just to go to one of your most wanted university, you have to fight with THE country? Also, this is test is like level 1000 or something, it's super hard. But there's a plenty of chance to get in by this door, as long as you are clever enough to answer all their questions because the question is not only hard, but also tricky.
3. With Exam - But in the University itself
This is the last chance to get in a public university in Indonesia. Yep, by doing the university's exam. It means that for example, you want to go to university A, that means you should do your exam in that university and the test is made by that university. But not all public university has their own exam, also, it is much expensive than if you took the national exam. Because this door is like the gold door.
I don't really wanted to go to a public university, because I couldn't understand Indonesian 100%, also, I've realise when I speak in Indonesian, is not as fluently as in French..............
So yep, I wasn't really ready for it. Especially for the exams, like wtf nooo, it's so hard that even the smartest kid in my class still have a chance to be rejected.
So it was a big no no
But I tried to search for other information and...
I found out that there's an International class in a public university, like Gadjah Mada University and University of Indonesia.
I was really happy bcs it's an International class, so they use english in class. Also, in your last year, you're able to go outside of the country for 1 year to complete your study and your assignment (for the end of your bachelor phase)
It was just what I was looking for. A university with an International basic and it's still in Indonesia! (So my mom would agree with what I want lol)
I'll be talking about these universities in my next blog, bye!
- Be grateful for what you have. -
